On Location or On-Site

We can offer training at our location in Smeeton Westerby, where we will show you how to set up a simple home studio, or on location at your premises.

In both cases we will show how to get the very best results out of your camera equipment and available lighting. We will also provide you with a lighting and set up diagram plus a list of any specialist kit you will need.

Camera Equipment required

What equipment will I need?

You will require a minimum level of equipment to attend one of these courses. If you do not have the necessary kit we can provide a simple studio set up for demonstration purposes and a shopping list so you can buy the kit before or after the course. Ideally you will need:

A Digital SLR camera

A separate flashgun or studio lights

A sturdy tripod

A background and stand

A selection of clamps

White Reflecting Card

What if I don't have everything required for the course?

We will advise you on any special equipment when you book. We can always use our camera kit and provide you with a shopping list plus suggested suppliers during the course.

Is there any support after the course?

We offer 30 days reasonable email or phone support after the training day. You can also email us pictures for comments.

Why is it more expensive for you to travel to us?

Because I need to allow for extra travel time, extra set-up time, fuel, expenses and lugging a car load of gear around.

How many people can attend the same course?

Up to four students can attend a course but please be aware that the more students then the less individual practical time per student there will be.

Employing a Professional Photographer...

NikonIdeally there is no substitute for employing the services of a professional photographer. A good photographer will have the skills, experience and the correct camera and lighting equipment to produce high quality product shots every time.

...Or learn how to take your own product photographs

Sometimes it's not always practical, or cost effective, to use a professional photographer each time you need a quick staff portrait or product shot.

All our product photography courses are run as private tuition and tailored to your individual requirements. We can suggest equipment for you prior to the training or we can bring our own and provide a kit list so you can purchase after the course.

Courses can be here, or on location for an extra charge, and include Photoshop tuition. These jargon free courses are explained in simple terms and we aim to give you a good understanding of how to light your products correctly and creatively. It's important that you learn and understand the techniques rather than just be given a list of settings that suit one set-up scenario.

"Glen was a top chap, who knew his really knew his stuff!

Note from Glen. These were really tricky items to photograph as they were generally shiny products in shiny boxes with lots of shiny corners. It was also important to get the exposure and white balance correct to minimize the Photoshop editing time. James and Gary were attentive students who grasped the techniques quickly and were soon producing some excellent images.

For this reason we understand that occasionally you might like to take your own photographs but would appreciate a bit of extra training or advice. This photography training service could literally save save you hours of time and £££s in product photography fees. It's well worth considering if you are likely to take a lot of product photography or staff portraits in the future. All our courses include 30 days reasonable email or phone support.

How Our Product Photography Courses Work.

Let's be honest. I'm not going to turn you into an award winning professional photographer in a day. But if I set everything up for you, show you the correct lighting and camera settings then all you need to do is press the button. Following this technique you should be able to produce a good quality image time and time again. This ensures your marketing materials will look more professional and should attract more clients.

Photoshop Training for Product Photography

Product Photography CourseA very big part of any product photography is Photoshop post production. This often involves background clean-up or cut-outs, resizing plus exposure and colour correction. If you have never used Photoshop before it may be better to attend the photography course first followed by the Photoshop course over two consecutive days. If you are a competent computer user we can recommend the combined Photography & Photoshop Workshops over a single extended day. It's better for you to bring your own laptop with a copy of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements but we can provide one if required. During the course you will learn how to:

This has been a great photography course and I know I can now take photographs instead of just snaps. Highly Recommended.

Ivan Last

A good balance of technical and practical information with enough detail for the experienced camera user without losing the beginners interest. A great course for getting the best out of my DSLR.

Iain Carpenter

Glen is extremely knowledgeable. There is an awful lot to take in and it's difficult to remember it all on the day but with extra practice and the provided notes your photography will surely improve. I feel much more confident as a result of this course.

Steve Envis

Red wine

An excellent course and I will definitely be attending further courses at a later date.

Brian Smith

An easy to follow and understand course which covered all the aspects I wanted. The friendly group worked together well to make it a most enjoyable day and experience.

A very good beginners or refresher course for those new to a digital SLR or for someone moving on from film.

Tim Roebuck

I enjoyed the day thoroughly and after four years of owning a digital camera I learned more in one day than I had in the previous four years. At last I can understand what I'm doing and I look forward to producing much better photographs.
